Manchester City fans can expect to see Claudio Echeverri in training with his new Etihad Stadium teammates in the coming days.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder will be arriving at the Etihad Stadium fresh off the back of a hugely successful individual campaign with Argentina’s Under-20 side, recording a multitude of big-moment goals and assists for his country.

Those outings came at the South American Under-20 Championships across January and February, in which Echeverri and Argentina narrowly missed out on the title of champions to rivals Argentina – whom they thrashed on the opening match in a 0-6 win.

Providing two goals and an assist in their tournament-opening win over Brazil, Echeverri would go on to make appearances in all his side’s remaining outings scoring another four goals and providing two further assists.

However, an injury prior to the final decisive game of the competition against Paraguay hindered Echeverri’s performance output significantly and he and his teammates fell to a 2-3 loss to end their hopes of final matchday silverware.

Now, as reported by journalist Uriel Iugt, Manchester City can expect to welcome Claudio Echeverri to the club in the coming days with the Argentina youth international set to travel to England ‘in the first days of the week’.

For now, it remains to be seen just how much of an impact Echeverri can have on the remainder of Manchester City’s season. However, the feeling is that the player is viewed as a talent to be developed as opposed to an immediate focal point of the team.

The Argentine’s arrival at the club does come at a time when recruitment bosses are assessing the future of Pep Guardiola’s side, particularly in the attacking midfield ranks amid Kevin De Bruyne’s uncertain future.

The Belgian midfielder is into the final months of his contract at Manchester City and knows that talks will be held in the coming weeks over whether he has a future at the club beyond the end of the campaign.
