Roma manager Claudio Ranieri spoke to the TG1 news broadcast of Mediaset on the eve of the match against Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia.
“Dybala? I think we’ve all seen who he is: when he’s well, he makes the difference,” he said when asked about the Argentine’s links with Galatasaray.
“I’m happy to have him, I’m happy to put him on the pitch when he’s well. But if he has other priorities, both of us need to agree, if the boy doesn’t want to stay there’s a chance.”
“I only want players who are happy to be here. I’m not just referring to Dybala, I’m speaking in general: if someone doesn’t feel comfortable, was hoping to play more or get something else, I only want those who want to fight game after game.”
“It’s the first time I hear news of Galatasaray’s interest, but we all know very well that the agents work for this.”
“Do I feel disappointed with the team? I don’t feel disappointed because, as I said, we’ll see in December what we do. I don’t get excited after a game played well and won, let’s say, easily, nor do I get down after a loss.”
“I’m a very concrete person, very pragmatic, and I always want the best from my players. That’s why I expect a great game tomorrow night.”
“The team doesn’t struggle because of a lack of personality. There are times when the boys can’t give what they want. The strangest thing is that, looking at the GPS data, we ran more in the second half against Como than we did in the first.”
“Someone said that maybe the team was tired from the Cup match, but nothing could be further from the truth. We ran and sprinted more in the second half, but not as a team, but as individuals. Como, on the other hand, played as a team and beat us, rightly so.”
“This is my mandate: to find players willing to give their all on the pitch, always. Just as the fans don’t like it, I don’t like it either, because deep down I’m a fan too. I can’t stand this alternation of attitudes. I always want the best, and if I can’t get it, we have to intervene.”
“Of course, a player with a size like Dovbyk cannot find his ideal physical condition in a week, especially considering that we all trained so little. However, I am convinced that this is a champion and he will have to prove it to us.”
“The new coach? We must all keep our eyes wide open, because if we want great coaches we must wake up and we must stay and fight to get back on track, because I don’t think a great coach wants to come to Roma in this situation.”
“We must do our best to bring Roma back to where it deserves to be. We started with a handicap, but I always say that you see the horses at the end. Let’s see what we have done at the end of the season.”
“Tomorrow Hummels, Cristante and Kone will be unavailable. We’ll have some forced rotations in the midfield.”
