Cléber Xavier has been appointed assistant coach to Oswaldo Vizcarrondo with the Venezuela national team.
He was unveiled at a press conference on Tuesday, according to Globo.com.
The backroom team will also include Óscar Ortega, who worked for years at Atlético de Madrid, as fitness coach, and Mario Marín, experienced with Colombia’s youth sides, as goalkeeping coach.
Xavier served as Tite’s number one assistant for 24 years. That partnership took him to two World Cups with Brazil, in 2018 and 2022, and through stints at Grêmio, Palmeiras, Corinthians and Flamengo.
He became Santos head coach last year and was dismissed in August 2025 after 15 matches, recording five wins, four draws and six defeats. He faced heavy pressure after home losses, including against Internacional, and poor results on the club’s return to the Brasileirão, such as the draw with Sport at Ilha do Retiro.
