Arsenal held Manchester United to a draw on Friday night thanks to a late goal from summer signing Cloé Lacasse. The two sides opened up the Women’s Super League weekend at Leigh Sports Village with a thrilling 2-2 tie.

After suffering a bruising opening weekend defeat, Arsenal made the journey north to face Man United. Suffering a 1-0 loss to Liverpool in front of a packed Emirates stadium, Jonas Eidevall’s squad were hoping for a change of fortune. Man United vs Arsenal — How it went

It was undoubtedly the visitors who enjoyed the better start to the game. Several early chances for the Gunners saw United forced to defend for the opening spell. An early goal from Stina Blackstenius gave the visitors the lead just 14 minutes into the tie.

However, the goal seemed to reignite the hosts as Leah Galton found the equaliser just 13 minutes later. With the deadlock restored, the game settled into a comfortable rhythm with neither side able to gain a real advantage as they headed into half-time.

The game remained level until the 81st minute when Melvine Malard gave the hosts the lead following a spell of dominant play. The France international netted her first goal for the club on her debut appearance but another milestone goal cancelled out her moment. An injury-time wonder strike from new Arsenal signing Cloé Lacasse saw the game finish in a 2-2 draw with the points shared.

Who is up next?

Man United will host Paris Saint-Germain in their first Champions League game before welcoming Leicester in the WSL. The Reds will be forced to contend with a packed schedule with four games in just 12 days. Skinner’s side will face a return leg in France before facing Everton ahead of the international break.

Arsenal will play host to Aston Villa before travelling to face newly promoted Bristol City. With the Gunners yet to secure a win this season, Eidevall will be hoping to secure all six points ahead of a tough meeting with Manchester City after the international break.
