Nottingham Forest defender Nicolo Savona has emerged as a target for Serie A side Atalanta, who are seen as a ‘highly desirable destination’ for the Italian.
Savona signed for Forest from Juventus last summer, with the player’s agent admitting that Manchester City had made an enquiry prior to the move.
The Italian made his debut as a substitute against Arsenal before quickly establishing himself as a starter, scoring important goals against Manchester United and Liverpool.
Towards the end of December, however, Savona was relegated back to the bench as Nottingham Forest struggled for results.
Savona’s campaign went from bad to worse as he suffered a knee injury in February, curtailing his season after undergoing surgery in early March.

Ola Aina enjoyed an extended run at right-back in Savona’s absence, with the results improving such that Nottingham Forest avoided relegation comfortably.
With Neco Williams also able to play right-back, and the Tricky Trees being linked with Atalanta’s Raoul Bellanova, Savona could struggle to force himself back into contention next season, and a move might be the best outcome for all parties.
Serie A side Atalanta could be one possible destination, as the Italians have identified Savona as a possible reinforcement, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web.
Atalanta want Savona as a replacement for the in-demand Marco Palestra and are seen as a ‘highly desirable destination’ for the Nottingham Forest man.

The Garibaldis are in the market for a defender, with Rayo Vallecano said to be keen on keeping Nottingham Forest target Nobel Mendy permanently, Gremio’s Viery also of interest to Newcastle United, while they could be set for a ‘possible relaunch’ in their pursuit of Roma’s Jan Ziolkowski, and could thus see Savona being moved on as a way to balance the books
What the terms of any deal for Savona might be are unclear, but given his potential and room for growth, Nottingham Forest might feel it prudent to include a sell-on clause in any deal with Atalanta.
Doing so would give the Tricky Trees a continued stake in Savona’s career progression.
