Juventus and Manchester United remain ‘far apart’ over a potential loan deal for forward Joshua Zirkzee, who is also on Aston Villa’s radar.

The Dutch centre-forward arrived at Old Trafford two seasons ago for a £36.5m fee but has struggled to justify that price tag with his numbers.

The 25-year-old has scored just nine goals in 75 appearances for the Old Trafford side, with only five of those coming in the Premier League.

Last season, he managed just five starts, scoring twice and providing a single assist as the Red Devils secured Champions League football with a third-placed finish.

Villa are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements and, alongside their pursuit of Nicolas Jackson, have also identified Zirkzee as a potential option to bolster their frontline, with enquiries made.

Alongside the Villans, two Serie A sides, Juventus and Napoli, are also interested in prising the Netherlands international away from Manchester.

Napoli can offer the 25-year-old Champions League football in Naples, while Juventus can only put Europa League football on the table, with work still to be done before a move can materialise.

According to Italian journalist Luca Cerchione, Juventus and Manchester United remain some distance apart over the structure of a potential deal.

The Bianconeri have proposed a season-long loan worth €2m with a €28m buy option, but the Red Devils are pushing for an obligation to buy.

Juventus so far being unable to agree a deal for Zirkzee will encourage Aston Villa.

Manchester United have also been linked with Teun Koopmeiners, with Juventus keen to sanction his departure this summer.

With just a week remaining in the transfer window, it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can bridge the gap and get a deal over the line.

With Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo doing much of the heavy lifting last season, Michael Carrick is likely to lean on the trio again this campaign, while also welcoming Marcus Rashford back from Barcelona.

Blaugrana midfielder Marc Casado is also on Manchester United’s radar, with the 25-year-old said to be weighing up his options
