Newcastle United will demand a fee of €15m from Besiktas for the signature of Joe Willock in the January transfer window, if the midfielder has not penned a new Magpies deal.

In the summer window, Besiktas wanted to snap up Willock and there were indications that the midfielder was prepared to make the move.

Following a brilliant half-a-season loan spell from Arsenal, where he scored eight goals in only 14 league games, the Magpies paid around €30m for Willock.

Willock, though, has struggled to show the brilliance from that loan spell, and has been a sporadic option at St. James’ Park.

Since the Magpies lost Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes in the summer window, the 27-year-old midfielder has gained a lot of importance, and it has paid off as well.

Besiktas’ interest in Willock has not gone away though and they are aware that he is into the final year of his contract at Newcastle.

The Turkish giants’ president claimed a deal was in place in the summer, which Newcastle stopped after he scored a key goal against Liverpool this term, and he has scored two more since his goal against the Reds.

The Black Eagles are ready to make a move for him in the January window, and Willock is also ‘warmly inclined’ to make a move to the Turkish club.

If Besiktas want to sign Willock in January though, they will have to meet a €15m asking price put on his head by Newcastle, according to Turkish daily Turkiye Gazetesi.

It is suggested Newcastle are plotting to lock Willock down to a new deal and if they do, the chances of a move to Besiktas could be slim.

Besiktas have a number of irons in the fire as they plot how to strengthen the squad mid-season.

Rangers midfield star Nicolas Raskin is also another top target and one Turkish journalist has stressed that he prefers the Gers man over Willock, but feels the Black Eagles need both.

Whether the Black Eagles will step up their pursuit for the 27-year-old Magpies star in the coming weeks and months remains to be seen.
