Roma are not putting all their eggs in the basket of signing Nottingham Forest defender Morato before the end of the summer transfer window.

Morato arrived at the City Ground from Portuguese side Benfica in the summer of 2024 and his current contract with the club runs until 2029.

The 24-year-old has established himself as a regular in the first-team, and last term, he made 21 Premier League appearances, while also chipping in with a goal.

Nottingham Forest have signed Ousmane Diomande from Sporting Lisbon this summer and Morato has fallen down the pecking order and has yet to make an appearance for them this season.

The Brazilian defender has attracted interest from Serie A giants Roma and boss Gian Piero Gasperini is very keen on adding him to his squad.

However, Morato is not the only option for Roma, as according to Sky Italia (via Tutto Mercato Web), the Giallorossi have also made contact with Monaco defender Thilo Kehrer.

The Italian club view the former West Ham United defender as an alternative in the event they fail to land Morato, as there are only a few days left before the transfer window closes.

Nottingham Forest themselves are still exploring the transfer window to add more depth to their defence, and are keen on Fiorentina full-back Dodo, but recently their offer for him was deemed too low.

Besides that, the Tricky Trees are also looking to make key additions to their midfield, and have shown interest in Pape Matar Sarr, but face competition from Everton.

Nottingham Forest are yet to register a win in the new season, having lost to Leeds United in the Premier League and the EFL Cup.

Manager Oliver Glasner will want to make further additions to the squad before the end of the transfer window and might want to add another defender in the event Morato leaves the club.

It remains to be seen if Roma will be able to sign Morato, but time is running out for the Giallorossi.
