A planned meeting of clubs and football federations with government ministers at the Palácio do Planalto on Tuesday has been postponed until after the first-round vote on Sunday, 4 October.

According to Globo.com, the session was called on Monday for the following day, leaving clubs struggling to appoint delegates.

The talks aim to assess the landscape after a provisional measure banned betting companies in Brazil, and are expected to cover a financial lifeline for teams, including a potential credit line.

Clubs had sought a below-market BNDES facility to restructure overdue debts, but the bank has ruled this out, noting it had not taken part in any talks, is barred by statute from financing clubs, and dismisses the idea of a subsidised line.

Negotiations began before the ban, which had made betting firms the main commercial partners for Brazilian teams. The CBF is involved, and this year’s Financial Fair Play regulation is being cited to support access to credit.

It is estimated any facility could reach R$ 20 billion for Série A and Série B sides. On Monday, the São Paulo federation met member clubs and has been coordinating their response for about a month.
