The relationship between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Giorgio Furlani is showing signs of improving after some worrying reports emerged last week.

A few days ago we wrote at length about Milan’s internal power struggle, which came after Footmercato stated that the management is ‘more than ever divided into several camps’ with Furlani and Ibrahimovic ‘tearing each other apart’.

As Calciomercato.com report, crucial days await in the internal restructuring of Milan after a season that has led to a failure in results across the board. Sergio Conceicao will certainly pay the price, as he will say goodbye to the club at the end of the season, but more moves will be made.

Furlani is working on several fronts to plan for next season and there is no time to waste. The first two points are the appointment of the new sporting director and that of the coach, important choices that must also be shared by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Relations between the two have been cold for several months, they are two strong and sometimes imposing personalities, but in recent days there have been signs that they want to lead to a sort of thaw between the parties.

The trip to America was useful for Furlani to discuss several things with Gerry Cardinale, from the stadium to the strategic lines to grow the brand globally. The main focus, though, was the internal reorganisation: the CEO obtained the approval to take the reins of the sporting side.

Is Ibrahimovic out of the game entirely? Not really, because the Swede remains the trusted man of the RedBird owner. That being said, the idea is to relieve him of tasks and responsibilities that fall to the sporting director.

Cardinale reminded Furlani of how the meetings in London with Fabio Paratici, Andrea Berta and Igli Tare were only preliminary, and that Ibrahimovic had warned the CEO when he was on holiday in the mountains that the discussions would take place.

It remains to be seen whether Zlatan will accept having less influence on sporting decisions. He certainly no longer wants to act as a lightning rod for everything, meaning his media exposure will be drastically reduced.

Discussions are already planned for this week for the choice of the sporting director and while the final word will be Furlani’s, it doesn’t mean Zlatan’s say is excluded.
