By all accounts, AC Milan should extend Mike Maignan’s contract by the end of the season, but an agreement is in place, and there are no official signs yet.

There have been a lot of rumours in the past few months about contracts, and Tijjani Reijnders’ renewal was, undoubtedly, the big focus for Milan. Now that the Dutchman has extended, surely the next focus will be on Maignan’s deal.

However, this is to be questioned.

As a report from Calciomercato.com recalls, the two parties reached a verbal agreement before the turn of the year, and despite wanting to continue together, there has not been an official signing yet, which opens questions about the situation.

Questions about a possible exit have been rife, especially with his value dropping recently after a handful of mistakes, and this is, perhaps, a reason why an official agreement has not been reached yet, as the report speculates.

However, the last details are still missing, and it seems the reason for this is due to ‘market logic and strategies’. Teams have previously been interested in the shot stopper’s availability, but not as much as clubs have been queuing up for Reijnders, so there is less urgency to renew.

Even if Maignan does sign a new deal, he would not be unsellable, far from it, in fact, if any offers arrived in the summer, they would be ‘considered’.
