Colchester United opened their League Two campaign with a 2-2 draw at Accrington Stanley, Ellis Iandolo and Rob Hunt scoring for the visitors and Charlie Caton netting twice for the hosts at the Wham Stadium.
Jack Payne set up Iandolo’s header for the opener, Caton replied with a brace for Accrington, then Hunt levelled. Bournemouth Echo notes Iandolo was the U’s man of the match.
New signing Thimothee Lo-Tutala denied Caton and Conneely before half-time and produced a series of tidy stops. Kane Vincent-Young steadied after a difficult opening period.
Jack Tucker grew into the contest and completed 90 minutes after a recent injury worry, while Sean Raggett relished the physical battle. Hunt’s equaliser had a touch of fortune as he performed solidly in central midfield.
Harry Anderson worked tirelessly but was well marshalled by the home defence. Oscar Thorn improved after the interval and Bradley Ihionvien led the line with discipline despite limited service.
Teddy Bishop departed after five minutes with a hamstring problem, replacement Jake Leake then withdrew at half-time with a shoulder issue. Paul Digby added experience after arriving on 46 minutes and Leon Chiwome featured late on at 78.
