His was Chelsea’s third goal in a 3-2 derby defeat of Fulham, capping a formidable attacking performance which also saw him assist Joao Pedro’s opener after 30 seconds.

After a frustrating 2025/26 campaign riddled with injuries saw him miss out on a place in England’s World Cup squad, Palmer comes into this season with a point to prove, and he is well on his way to showing he can get back to his best.

Speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, he said his injury hell in the past and was prepared to remind the world how influential a player he can be.

Asked how ready he is for the new campaign, he chuckled: "Did you not watch the game? I'm only joking, I'm ready you know.

“It was a difficult season with injuries and whatnot, but through the summer and since I've been back I've worked extra hard.

“Obviously with the injuries I've had to try and prevent them and work extra hard day in, day out. I know the talent I've got so I can put in performances like that.”

He continued, saying his season spent on the sidelines has lit a new fire under him.

“Normally I'm not an emotional person, the people who know me know I'm not usually bothered about things in life, but over the summer I rested, I recharged and yeah, I'm ready, and I'm hungry.”
