Cologne reach agreement in principle to sign Edson Álvarez | OneFootball

Cologne have reached an agreement in principle with English Championship club West Ham to sign Edson Álvarez, according to a report by Florian Plettenberg.

Mexico’s captain appears keen on a move to the Cathedral club, having gathered information on the Billy Goats, ‘the fans, the atmosphere, the city and the stadium – and has received nothing but positive feedback’ but a potential stumbling block would be that the defensive midfielder would have to take a significant pay cut.

Additionally, Plettenberg reports that Álvarez has received offers from Turkey, having spent 2025/26 on loan at Fenerbahçe, whom he only represented 18 times after undergoing ankle surgery at the turn of the year.

For Cologne, signing Álvarez would be a major coup. Their pursuit of the Mexican could be aided by Tim Steidten, the club’s squad planner, who worked for West Ham and was responsible for bringing Álvarez to England in 2023.
