Kingsley Coman will be watching as two of his former clubs, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, face off in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The 29-year-old winger came through PSG’s youth ranks but made only four first-team appearances before moving to Juventus. He later joined Bayern, where he spent ten seasons, before departing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr last summer.
When asked which of his two former clubs he will be hoping for on Tuesday, Coman opted for the Germans.
“Now that I no longer play for Bayern, I’ll say: Allez Paris,” the winger told Le Parisien – before correcting himself with a laugh.
“Ah, no. I have more friends at Bayern than at PSG, so I’ll be supporting Bayern on Tuesday,” he continued.
“I spent so much time in Munich… Of course, I was trained in Paris, and the club is in my heart. But I played ten seasons at Bayern and faced PSG so many times that I had to detach a little from that.
“Of course I love PSG, but when you spend so much time at a team like Bayern, you build strong ties and relationships,” Coman explained.
“I have closer bonds in Munich than in Paris, where none of my generation remain after Presnel [Kimpembe] left. For all these reasons, I’ll support Bayern – but if PSG win, I’ll still be happy.”
During his 339 appearances for Bayern, Coman scored a total of 72 goals – including the winner in the 2020 Champions League final against PSG.
