Crystal Palace face Liverpool in the 2025 Community Shield at Wembley this afternoon.
The FA Cup winners take on the Premier League champions with both eager to claim the first silverware of the season.
It’s a first-ever appearance in the season’s curtain-raiser for Crystal Palace, following their FA Cup triumph last season. Oliver Glasner ended the club’s 120-year wait for a first major trophy, with Eberechi Eze scoring the decisive goal in the final win over Manchester City.
Palace will now look for another success at Wembley, but face a formidable proposition in Liverpool. After cantering to the Premier League title last season, the Reds have reinforced with a summer spend in excess of £250m.
Arne Slot could hand semi-competitive debuts to the new arrivals, which include Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.
Victory would be Liverpool’s 17th in the Community Shield, moving the Merseysiders level with Arsenal for the second-most titles. Only Manchester United (21) have won the Community Shield on more occasions.
The match will be broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports 1 and discovery+. Coverage begins at 2pm BST, ahead of a 3pm kick-off at Wembley.
