Como have announced that women’s team player Roberta Picchi has been diagnosed with breast cancer and that the club have decided to extend the striker’s contract for another year to support her through her recovery.

Como forward Picchi is expected to begin treatment in the coming days following a diagnosis of breast cancer. The 34-year-old was part of the Como side that earned promotion from Serie B at the end of the 2025-26 season, earning a spot in the top flight for the first time in the team’s history.

Como have confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that they will continue to offer their full support to Picchi as she undergoes treatment for breast cancer, and in a strong show of emotional and financial support, the club has decided to extend the striker’s contract until the end of the 2027-28 season.

“Como 1907 can confirm that Roberta Picchi has been diagnosed with breast cancer following a series of medical examinations,” read a statement on the club website.

“Roberta will now begin her treatment, supported throughout by the Club’s medical team, who will work closely with the specialists responsible for her care.

“Everyone at Como 1907 is alongside Roberta and will give her and her family all the support they need during the months ahead.

“As part of that continued commitment, the Club has also renewed Roberta’s contract until the end of the 2027/28 season.

“At this time, we ask that Roberta’s privacy is respected as she focuses on her treatment and recovery.”
