Chelsea signed goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez over the weekend, and he immediately took the starting berth.

The Blues now need to part ways with former first-choice Robert Sanchez, with Mike Penders set to provide competition for the Argentine.

According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, Como are assessing a move for the Chelsea goalkeeper who is now deemed surplus to requirements.

The 28-year-old is still a decent shot-stopper at the peak of his powers and might benefit from a change of environment this summer.

Sanchez has endured an error-strewn spell at Chelsea, conceding 140 goals in 112 appearances and keeping only 30 clean sheets.

He did play a key role as the Blues won the FIFA Club World Cup and Europa Conference League titles.

Unfortunately, his mistakes and handling issues have prompted new manager Xabi Alonso to replace him, and he might have to search for a new stomping ground.

Como could be a good fit, as they have a decent relationship with Chelsea after the sale of Cobham academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah to the Serie A outfit.

Chelsea finally correcting their error

Chelsea should never have signed Sanchez in the first place.

He was never consistently up to the standard required of a club with genuine title ambitions, and his repeated errors should have made that obvious long before now.

The fact that the Blues have waited this long to finally move him on indicates their lack of seriousness about challenging for major honours.

Elite clubs cannot afford to carry uncertainty in goal for season after season. Martinez now gives Chelsea the reliability they have lacked, while Penders can develop behind him.
