Como have made an initial approach to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap on loan.

The Italian side have enquired about Delap’s availability on a season-long arrangement, as former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas prepares to lead Como into the Champion League.

The two teams have a good working relationship and have already done business this summer, with Trevoh Chalobah leaving Stamford Bridge for Serie A for a £30m fee.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal for Delap is now being explored between the sides, with the 23-year-old a leading target.

Delap struggled during a disappointing debut campaign at Chelsea after joining from Ipswich Town in a £30m deal last summer. He scored just twice in 41 appearances and Chelsea are willing to entertain offers, amid interest from the Premier League and Europe.

Everton, Fulham, and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with the forward, who Chelsea value at around £40m. Any loan exit could require a purchase clause.

Chelsea have already added to their centre-forward options this summer with Danny Welbeck’s £5m arrival from Brighton.
