Bayern loanee Javi Fernández is currently turning heads even outside of Munich. The 19-year-old is under contract with 1. FC Nürnberg this season and has apparently impressed coach Miroslav Klose with his skills. The former world-class striker draws a remarkable comparison.

Klose sees, above all, parallels in the Spaniard’s character to two former Bayern stars: Thomas Müller and Toni Kroos. Both have shown throughout their careers how important it can be to keep your head up despite setbacks.

“The two players I know who were exactly like that were Thomas Müller and Toni Kroos,” Klose explained. Müller, in particular, was known for his extraordinary resilience.

“Müller misses three surefire scoring chances, and five minutes later he’s standing there as if nothing had happened, and then he smashes the ball into the net. Anyone else would have been frustrated by that long ago,” said Klose.

Klose also cited Kroos as an example of remarkable development. “Toni Kroos made a lot of mistakes and often lost the ball when he first joined Bayern and played on the left wing,” recalled the Nuremberg coach.

„That’s talent.“

Today, there’s hardly any trace of that left. “And when you see what he’s become, he hardly ever loses the ball anymore. That’s talent,” Klose emphasized.

The 46-year-old also sees great potential in Fernández. At the same time, Klose wants to prevent the young Spaniard from skipping the next step in his development.

“But we have to keep Javi grounded,” the coach clarified. The Nuremberg coach is closely monitoring the development of his loaned player and still sees room for improvement.

“In practice, there were two or three situations where he should have passed the ball sooner, but instead he keeps dribbling off and trying to nutmeg his opponent,” Klose explained.

Things are going quite well for Fernández and 1. FC Nuremberg at the moment. After five matchdays, the club remains undefeated and leads the 2. Bundesliga with 13 points. Fernández has been a regular in the starting lineup so far and has made five league appearances and recorded one assist this season.

For Fernández, Nuremberg thus currently offers an ideal environment to continue developing at a high level. Klose’s trust and regular playing time are helping the Bayern talent reach his full potential. If the 19-year-old continues his positive development, the loan could prove to be an important step in his career for everyone involved.
