Concacaf Champions Cup: Reviewing past matchups between Liga MX and MLS clubs

MIAMI – Ahead of the start of the Quarterfinals in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup, which features a complete slate of matchups between Liga MX and MLS clubs, we look back at the history between clubs from the topflight in Mexico and the United States.
Note: Records listed below are from the 2008/09 edition onwards.
Second Quarterfinals in 10 years featuring all Liga MX vs. MLS matchups
All four series in the Quarterfinals will feature a team from Liga MX against an MLS side. That feat last occurred during the 2015/16 edition.
On that occasion the matchups were the following: Club América vs. Seattle Sounders FC, Santos Laguna vs. LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake vs. Tigres UANL, and D.C. United vs. Queretaro FC.
Liga MX vs. MLS – Overall Record
Since 2008, the Champions Cup has presented a total 163 encounters between Liga MX and MLS sides. Liga MX sides currently lead with 85 victories to 36 for MLS teams, while 42 matches have resulted in draws.
Record in Concacaf Champions Cup Final
Seven editions of the region’s premier club competition have featured duels between a Liga MX and an MLS side. Mexican sides were crowned champions in six of those occasions:
2010/11: CF Monterrey vs. Real Salt Lake – CF Monterrey won
2014/15: Club América vs. Montreal Impact (now CF Montréal) - Club América América won
2018: CD Guadalajara vs. Toronto FC – CD Guadalajara won
2020: Tigres UANL vs. Los Angeles FC – Tigres UANL won
2022: Pumas UNAM vs. Seattle Sounders FC – Seattle Sounders FC won
2023: Club León vs. Los Angeles FC – Club León won
2024: CF Pachuca vs. Columbus Crew – CF Pachuca won
