Sergio Conceicao insists that Milan are working on more than just their new system that has brought four wins in their last five matches, and has provided an update on the condition of Youssouf Fofana following his first-half substitution during the 2-1 win away against Genoa on Monday night.

Milan secured yet another comeback win with a 2-1 victory over Genoa at the Marassi on Monday evening, with goals coming from substitutes Vitinha, Rafael Leao and an own goal from Grifone skipper Morten Frendrup.

With their 2-1 win over Genoa, Milan now have four wins in five matches across all competitions, made up of a 4-0 win away against Udinese, a 1-0 loss against Atalanta, a 3-0 Coppa Italia semi-final win over Inter, a 2-0 win away against Venezia and most recently the 2-1 win against Genoa.

Praised for his change in system, from a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-4-2-1 at the beginning of that run, Conceicao insists that there is more work than just formations behind the scenes at Milanello.

“We started in one way and finished in another. They pay me to work and read the game. Sometimes us coaches can give a little bit more, sometimes we can’t,” the Rossoneri said in his post-match interview with DAZN.

“We’re not just working on a system, We work at individual, departmental and collective levels. You get mistakes sometimes, like for the goal we conceded.

“That’s why we’re at Milanello, very focused on working on these things. We’re happy when the players succeed and win.”

And, on Monday night’s victory specifically, Conceicao added: “I think today was a demonstration that we have a strong and united group, where those who came on during the game gave us something extra.

“We changed in terms of position and put Joao with Santi up front and we opened up the attack a bit more. This is a demonstration of the skill of the players, not of the skill of the coach.”

Conceicao also provided an update on Fofana’s fitness as he had to withdraw after just 28 minutes on Monday night.

“He had a small issue with his foot. He made an effort to be able to train during the week. He felt the situation flare up again. He has a small problem, I don’t think it’s anything spectacular. We have to manage it. Everyone is important, all the players.”
