Confidence grows in Barcelona about Spotify Camp Nou hosting 2030 World Cup final | OneFootball

The Spotify Camp Nou is proving to be one of the major positives for FC Barcelona.

Not only the team has won every match played in front of its supporters, but the stadium has also emerged as one of the club’s main sources of revenue.

On top of that, the renovated stadium is gaining international recognition and putting the Catalan club firmly on the global football map.

2030 World Cup final at Camp Nou?

After being selected to host the 2029 Champions League final, there is now optimism across the club and the Catalan institutions that the stadium could also stage the 2030 World Cup final, reports MARCA.

Barça and the Barcelona council firmly believe that the Spotify Camp Nou has a chance of hosting the final of the tournament, which will take place in four years and will be organised by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

The Blaugrana and the relevant authorities have been working on their case for some time, and the decision on 15 September to award the 2029 Champions League final to the Catalan club’s stadium has given them further reason for optimism.

The main rival, and current favourite, is the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca. The Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid is also in contention.

Confidence grows

“It is the best setting for the final. It is not that I am optimistic, I am being realistic. I believe the best setting for the 2030 World Cup final is the Spotify Camp Nou,” Berni Álvarez, the Catalan government’s Sports Minister, recently said.

“We have done the best work so far, working very closely with Barcelona City Council and the club, without making a fuss and probably without doing what the others have done,” he added.

The minister expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out, while also acknowledging that the decision will involve factors beyond the quality of the bid itself.

“We will have opportunities. It will be a matter of being in the right place at the right time. But it will not depend 100 per cent on your work, and perhaps that is not fair,” he said.

“Nevertheless, I am very happy with all the steps we are taking because we are taking them in the right way.”

FIFA has yet to announce the venue for the final. Recently, however, Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation, said that it would be held at the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca.

The stadium is still under construction, with its opening scheduled for the end of 2027. It is planned to have 115,000 seats, which would make it the world’s largest stadium by capacity.

There is nevertheless growing optimism within Barça and Catalan institutions.
