La Liga champions Barcelona have this week at long last announced the permanent signing of Josué Caicedo from LDU Quito. This comes after months of speculation linking the parties with a joining of forces.
Caicedo, for those not familiar with his name, is an 18-year-old defender, who chiefly takes to the pitch at left-back. The starlet spent the early years of his fledgling career developing on the books of LDU Quito, in his home country of Ecuador.
Despite his tender years, Caicedo had long broken onto the first-team picture at the club, sparking attention from a number of clubs in Europe, most notably the aforementioned Barcelona.
The Camp Nou brass in turn positioned themselves at the front of the queue to land the young full-back, widely hailed for his abilities on both sides of the ball.
And as alluded to above, after weeks of work behind the scenes on the legal side of things, on Wednesday, Barca have at long last landed their man.
As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the Catalan club:
‘Josué Caicedo is living his first days as a Barça player. After training for the first time with Barça Atlètic on Tuesday, the Ecuadorian defender completed his morning training session on Wednesday and, later, formalised his incorporation in the official signing of his contract at the offices of the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.’
