Quim Junyent has officially become a new UD Almeria player after leaving Barcelona as a free agent.

The Catalan midfielder’s contract with Barcelona expired on 30 June, and Almeria have completed his signing on a free transfer, handing the 19-year-old a long-term contract until June 2032.

Junyent arrives at Almeria with a reputation as one of Spain’s most promising young midfielders.

He is currently the captain of Spain’s Under-19 national team and has impressed at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Wales, where he scored in Spain’s opening match against the hosts.

Renowned for his vision, composure in possession, passing ability and control of the tempo of games, Junyent has emerged as one of the standout talents of his generation.

Junyent becomes Almeria’s fourth signing ahead of the 2026-27 season as the club prepares for a promotion push under head coach Garcia Pimienta.

A new chapter after La Masia

Junyent joined Barcelona’s academy at the age of nine and progressed through every level of La Masia.

He became a key player for both the Juvenil A side and Barça Atletic, while also playing an important role in Barcelona’s UEFA Youth League triumph.

His departure reflects an increasingly common trend among highly regarded academy graduates who choose to pursue opportunities elsewhere due to the fierce competition for places in Barcelona’s first team.

The 19-year-old agreed contract terms with Almeria in January itself after he failed to reach a renewal agreement with Barça. However, the transfer was not completed and he remained at La Masia, before finally completing the switch now.

At Almeria, Junyent will hope to secure regular senior football under Pimienta, a coach with history at Barcelona, and well known for developing technically gifted players.
