West Bromwich Albion are preparing to face local rivals Wolves for the first time in the league since 2021.

When Albion were relegated from the Premier League in the 2020/21 campaign, they carried an unbeaten record against the Old Gold, picking up four points via a win at Molineux and a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns.

Crucially, though, both fixtures were played without fans, with the last league fixture with an official attendance being in 2012 - when the Baggies stunned their neighbours with a 5-1 away win.

The pair did play out the Black Country derby in 2024, when Wolves sealed a 2-0 win in the fourth round of the FA Cup, but the anticipation is now building for the two league meetings this term, with Wolves now on equal footing as a Championship club.

Ahead of the clash on September 20th, West Brom have announced how many fans will make the short trip.

With tickets released to fans this week, the club have confirmed that the away allocation has sold out.

Typically, the lower tier of the Steve Bull Stand holds around 2,750, but this has been reduced for the first league derby in 14 years.

Instead, Albion will be backed by 2,550 travelling supporters who are hoping for a repeat of their last trip to Molineux in 2012.

With a slightly reduced contingent at Molineux, the situation will likely be the same for Wolves fans when the sides meet at The Hawthorns in February, with the trouble during the 2024 derby potentially playing a role.

Naturally, both sets of supporters are feeling all the emotions as they prepare to lock horns in the league.

Over on X, Albion fans reacted to the announcement, with one supporter saying: "Excited for this game since the end of last season.

"Excitement turns to fear of losing, turns back to excitement two weeks before the game. Can't concentrate on anything else the week before the game. Been too long."

The excitement was clear, with some just choosing to back their side.

One supporter would also joke about the recent Wolves announcement, with the ban on The Liquidator being upheld, sparking jeers from Albion fans.

For the first time in 14 years, the Black Country derby will be played out in the league, with fans in attendance, naturally sparking a race for tickets.

Reacting to the scramble on Friday morning, one fan said: "Got my Wolves tickets... not nervous at all."

Wolves would draw 2-2 with Blackburn on opening night last week, with the Baggies beating Norwich a day later.

And heading into the derby next month, both sets of fans will be desperate to see momentum on their side.

West Brom will be out for revenge at Molineux

There are obvious fond memories of the last league clash between the pair, when Peter Odemwingie netted a hat-trick in a 5-1 win at Molineux.

Last time out in the FA Cup, though, Wolves overcame their rivals at The Hawthorns, with goals from Pedro Neto and Matheus Cunha sealing a 2-0 win on an afternoon featuring crowd trouble.

Albion have dominated in recent history, with five wins to Wolves' two, but getting revenge for what happened last time at The Hawthorns will be the priority.
