The Magpies trio replace Nick Pope, Harvey Barnes and Anthony Elanga - who all drop to the bench - as Eddie Howe's side aim to overturn a two-goal deficit and reach a third Carabao Cup final in their last four seasons.

Kieran Trippier, who began his playing career at Manchester City, captains the visitors this evening. Botman, Malick Thiaw and Dan Burn start in central defence for the Carabao Cup holders while Lewis Hall will occupy the left-back role.

Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey all retain their spots in midfield as Newcastle target a first win at the Etihad Stadium since October 2014, with goals from Rolando Aarons and Moussa Sissoko sealing a 2-0 win in the League Cup.

Anthony Gordon, who netted his tenth goal of the 2025/26 season in last weekend's 4-1 defeat at Liverpool, will aim to provide attacking support for Nick Woltemade. The German forward is one goal shy of reaching double goalscoring figures in his maiden campaign on Tyneside.

Howe has a number of attacking options to deploy from the bench if required including Barnes, who netted a second-half brace in November's 2-1 win against Manchester City. The left winger will reach a century of competitive outings for the Magpies should he feature this evening.

Jacob Murphy, who scored his first Magpies goal against Man City during the 2017/18 Premier League campaign, is also named on the bench as well as Elanga, Yoane Wissa and Will Osula.

Sean Neave and Leo Shahar are both on standby for their professional debuts, with the teenage pair both named on the bench.

Substitutes: Nick Pope, Yoane Wissa, Harvey Barnes, Will Osula, Anthony Elanga, Jacob Murphy, Alex Murphy, Leo Shahar, Sean Neave.
