Manchester City take on Borussia Dortmund on matchday four of the UEFA Champions League group-phase at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Blues have won nine of their last 12 games in all competitions and are in a rich vein of form ahead of crucial home games against Dortmund and Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League and Premier League respectively.
Pep Guardiola and his side have turned a corner, to say the least, since they started the Premier League campaign with two losses in their opening three games to raise major doubts over their title race prospects amid competition from Liverpool and Arsenal.
However, an Erling Haaland-led Manchester City side have since gone from strength to strength and clawed their way back to second place in the Premier League whilst making impressive starts to their Carabao Cup and UEFA Champions League campaigns.
City sealed a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Brentford after coming from behind and securing a 3-1 win over Swansea City last week, with seven points from their opening three UEFA Champions League games as well.
The Blues have missed Ballon d’Or winner Rodri in the last month after the 29-year-old picked up a hamstring injury against Brentford in the Premier League at the start of October. However, Rodri made his return to action against Bournemouth on Sunday.
Guardiola and his coaching staff have already been sent crucial reminders that Rodri cannot be rushed back to action so there is a good chance Manchester City fans will not see the Spaniard in the starting XI anytime soon.
Mateo Kovacic is understood to have picked up a heel injury just weeks after returning to training – having undergone surgery on his Achilles in the summer – and the Croatian is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines with talk of a surgery that could keep Kovacic on the treatment table till February or March 2026.
