Manchester City return to Premier League duties on Saturday evening after the international break as a tricky test away at Newcastle awaits the Blues.

City entered the recent break with 11 wins in their last 14 games in all competitions – a run of form that has propelled Pep Guardiola’s men to second place in the Premier League after they were languishing in the bottom half of the table in August.

Arsenal are leading City by four points after 11 Premier League games and Guardiola will know that there is little margin for error for his side in the closing months of 2025, with the Blues looking to win a fifth league title in six seasons in May.

Rodri and Mateo Kovacic will remain unavailable for City against Newcastle, with the former yet to hit match fitness since his recent fitness setback and the latter recovering after undergoing surgery on his heel earlier this month.

Nico Gonzalez is thereby set to retain his place in the middle of the park for the visitors on Saturday, with no less than three points acceptable for a high-flying Manchester City side, who have all to play for as the season progresses.

Guardiola will be delighted to have a richness of options at his disposal for selection against the Magpies, who have made an indifferent start to the Premier League campaign but remain as difficult a proposition in the English top-flight for Guardiola and City.

City can maintain the pressure on league leaders Arsenal with a win in Tyneside on Saturday – which will cut the gap between first and second to a sole point ahead of the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Ahead of Saturday’s 17:30 UK kick-off between Newcastle United and Manchester City, here are the confirmed starting XI’s from both dressing rooms.
