Roma is ready to overhaul its attack in the January transfer window.
According to Filippo Biafora of Il Tempo, Sporting Director Frederic Massara is working hard on two key fronts to bring Gian Piero Gasperini the necessary reinforcements: Joshua Zirkzee and Giacomo Raspadori.
The number one target remains the former Bologna Dutchman.
Negotiations with Manchester United have been ongoing for months, and the player’s willingness could be a key factor: Zirkzee is reportedly keen to work under Gasperini to relaunch his career after a difficult period in England, culminating in him only appearing in injury time in the final match against Bournemouth.
However, the Red Devils have set a time limit: the green light could arrive only after January 18th, the end of the Africa Cup of Nations, to avoid being left unprotected following the departures of Diallo and Mbeumo.
Precisely to address United’s time constraints, the Giallorossi have returned forcefully to Giacomo Raspadori. A more immediate and sustainable deal is looming for the Italian striker: Atlético Madrid have reportedly opened up to a loan deal with an option to buy set at €20 million.
This solution would allow Gasperini to secure a reinforcement as early as the first few days of January, providing tactical flexibility to the attacking line.
It’s not out of the question that Roma could attempt a double signing, seeking to secure the Italian immediately and then waiting for the Zirkzee situation to be definitively resolved in the second half of the month. An ambitious strategy to secure the race for fourth place.
