In something of a surprising twist, VfB Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß has announced that Congo DR international Silas will be reintegrated into his squad soon. The 27-year-old’s Bundesliga outfit appeared to be 100 percent done with him. Silas has not been selected by Hoeneß to even serve on the bench of his matchday squad through 10 competitive fixtures this season.

Silas remains ineligible to feature for Stuttgart in the Europa League, but could make a Bundesliga or DFB Pokal appearance soon. Speaking at his Friday pre-match press conference, Hoeneß confirmed that the 18-times-capped international was making progress after being reintegrated into first team training. Stuttgart injury issues might enable Silas to push his way back up.

Hoeneß opted to hand Silas some playing time during a friendly against Elversberg over the international break. The former star who has scored 21 Bundesliga goals in 91 top flight appearances started and played 45 minutes on the right attacking flank. Silas helped his team rush out to a 2-0 lead over the 2. Bundesliga opponent in the first 45 minutes.

He’s much father along than I thought he would be,” Hoeneß said on Friday. “It’s surprising and encouraging. Silas can help us with the skills he has. That’s why we’ll see how things are after more good training sessions. But he still won’t be in the squad this weekend.
