Conmebol has named its team of the week for the Libertadores quarter-final second legs, with one Flamengo player included. According to Coluna Do Fla, Palmeiras and Estudiantes supply three players each after advancing alongside Flamengo and Fluminense.
The XI comprises goalkeeper C. Miguel (Palmeiras), defenders M. Carabajal (Independiente del Valle), T. Palacios and E. Mancuso (both Estudiantes), midfielders A. Castro (Estudiantes), G. De Arrascaeta (Flamengo), M. Freitas (Palmeiras) and G. Mainero (Platense), plus forwards V. Roque (Palmeiras), M. Estrada (LDU) and A. Canobbio (Fluminense).
Palmeiras lost 3-2 to LDU in Quito but progressed on penalties after the aggregate score. Fluminense were beaten 2-1 by Platense yet advanced thanks to their 2-0 first-leg win. Flamengo drew 1-1 with Independiente del Valle and Estudiantes beat Corinthians 1-0.
Arrascaeta was Flamengo’s sole inclusion, selected after scoring the equaliser that sealed their passage against Independiente del Valle. Independiente del Valle, despite elimination, were represented by defender Carabajal.
Estudiantes, Flamengo’s semi-final opponents, also had three picks and their strong showing against Corinthians was cited by coach Leonardo Jardim after qualification. Even so, Palacios will be suspended for the first leg due to yellow-card accumulation.
