Conmebol seeks more detail on FIFA Forward Enterprise amid UEFA-led boycott | OneFootball

Conmebol said in a statement that it has not yet taken a decision on the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, having requested further information and vowing to act with prudence, responsibility and collaboration.

The South American body convened a Council meeting to analyse and evaluate the proposal, then sought clarifications on its scope, structure, governance and possible effects, alongside a call for unity across the football family.

The FFE plan was unveiled by Gianni Infantino in a video on Wednesday 29 July, stating its main objective is to exploit football’s commercial value and, among other advantages, to raise the money allocated to each federation by 150%.

In recent hours UEFA has moved to organise a boycott, with Concacaf and the Asian AFC joining, and European football even saying it would pull out of upcoming FIFA tournaments.

Conmebol reiterated that football comes first, and that while development requires commercial decisions such as the FFE proposal, those choices must serve the game and never sit above its essence.

Infantino, in charge since 2016, has also drawn strong criticism for mandatory hydration breaks at the World Cup, seen by some as a way to add adverts and cater to the US market. There are rumours of a possible resignation and elections next year, with PSG sheikh Nasser Al-Khelaifi a candidate to take power.
