Conor Gallagher's transfer to Tottenham from Atlético de Madrid raised eyebrows.

The former Chelsea prospect appeared destined to rejoin the Premier League after two years in the Spanish capital, but it was Aston Villa who first made a move for him.

However, Gallagher spurned a switch to the Midlands in favour of a return to London with a Spurs side that was sleepwalking towards a top-flight relegation battle.

Things haven't exactly gone to plan for the England international since his capital homecoming, but he may have picked the ideal time to finally get off and running.

Gallagher opened the scoring against Villa on Sunday, which ended a 15-game wait to find the target for the Lilywhites, who were mired in the bottom three before kick-off.
