Earlier this week, Conor Gallagher’s move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid was finally confirmed. The 24-year-old was presented alongside new teammates Robin Le Normand, Alexander Sorloth and Julian Alvarez at a packed-out Civitas Metropolitano on Wednesday, where he spoke of his pride in joining the club.

Gallagher also spoke to Atleti’s official media channels on Thursday. As per MD, he revealed his goals for his time in the Spanish capital.

“I want to help the club as much as possible, obviously the goal is to win the title. Of course I’m here to win titles. It’s a very big club that has already won many titles. Hopefully we can win a few more together.”

Gallagher becomes the first English player to play for Atletico Madrid since Kieran Trippier, who left for Newcastle United. He revealed that he spoke to his international teammate before making the move, and discussions were also held with former Chelsea teammate, Cesar Azpilicueta.

“First, Kieran Trippier is a great player and an even better person. I spoke to him a lot about the club and what he thought. He only said good things to me. How incredible the club is, the fans, the city and that helped me make the decision.

“I have a good relationship with Azpi. I spoke to him and he only said good things about the club and why I should come.”
