Conor Gallagher is set to join Tottenham Hotspur instead of Aston Villa according to reports.
The midfielder had been strongly linked with a move to Villa with Unai Emery's team said to have agreed a fee with Atlético de Madrid. However, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Gallagher has instead decided to return to London and join Tottenham.
Spurs are expected to pay €40 million (just under £35m) for the 25-year-old who has three years remaining on his Atlético deal – a deal that became more important for Thomas Frank's team following the news that Rodrigo Bentancur will miss three months due to a hamstring injury that requires surgery.
Gallagher has played 77 games for the Madrid side since his arrival, scoring seven goals and also assisting seven times.
