Conor Townsend is having a medical with West Brom as he closes in on a Hawthorns return.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 33-year-old is poised to sign a one-year deal on a free transfer.
The left-back departed Albion in 2024 after six years and more than 200 appearances.
He joined Ipswich Town for £750,000 and made 10 appearances across two seasons, the first in the Premier League. An ACL injury in a pre-season friendly disrupted last season.
Ipswich released Townsend this summer after sealing a return to the Premier League.
He is well known to head coach James Morrison, who coached for most of his previous spell and briefly played alongside him in 2018.
Albion believe his experience suits their search for left-back cover as he turns 34 this season. He is viewed as support for star man Callum Styles.
Styles was Albion’s double player of the season last term, and there is currently no senior cover in that position. The Hungary international missed one league fixture last season.
Charlie Taylor filled the role on loan from Southampton last term.
Townsend will be the Baggies’ fifth summer recruit after forwards Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Barney Stewart, defender Carter Pinnington and goalkeeper Matt Ingram.
