Conti Cup quarter-final draw: Who is playing who in the final eight? | OneFootball

With the Continental Cup finally reaching the knockout stages, the draw for the quarter-final of the competition took place. The draw had been delayed pending a tribunal’s decision against Aston Villa after the club fielded an ineligible player in their 7-0 win over Sunderland.

The FA released a statement on Monday afternoon, confirming that Villa would be deducted three points and Sunderland awarded the win. The decision saw Sunderland go top of Group A, while Carla Ward’s side progressed to the quarter-finals in one of two runners-up spots.

Manchester United failed to progress in the competition with the club releasing a statement on their website following the announcement.

London City Lionesses vs Arsenal

London City will host Jonas Eidevall’s Arsenal for their quarter-final fixture. The Lionesses finished top of Group C having taken seven of a possible nine points. The Gunners are also unbeaten so far in the competition, dropping just a single point from their opening four games.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Aston Villa

Brighton will host Aston Villa in the final eight of the competition. The Seagulls finished top of Group E, having taken all nine points on offer. Villa came second in Group A with their points deduction against Sunderland the only blemish on an otherwise perfect group stage.

The two sides last met in December, with Ward’s side taking all three points from a 1-0 victory.

Tottenham vs Manchester City

Tottenham will host in-form Manchester City in the quarter-final. Spurs came second in Group B, dropping just two points from their four group stage matches. Gareth Taylor’s side finished top of Group D with their draw to Leicester seeing the Sky Blues drop two points. The two sides have met twice this season with City having put nine goals past their opponents.

Chelsea vs Sunderland

Chelsea will host Championship side Sunderland in the final eight of the Conti Cup. Emma Hayes’ side received a bye to the quarter-finals of the competition due to their involvement in the Champions League. Sunderland finished top of Group A, collecting ten points from their opening four matches.
