Andrea Conti’s time at AC Milan followed two patterns. At one stage, the defender was a regular, but then his playing time fell drastically.
After arriving in 2017 as a deputy to Ignazio Abate, the defender saw a fair bit of game time in his first month at Milan. However, his time at the club was quickly disrupted, with him suffering a serious injury just two months after joining.
From there, his luck continued to fall, with him suffering an ACL injury during his rehabilitation process, which ended his season.
A return in December 2018 came around, and the Italian saw out the rest of the season quite well, even if it was mostly from the bench. But when Stefano Pioli arrived in 2019, things began to take a turn for the better, with him becoming a regular starter.
Unfortunately, in 2020, the defender suffered another knee injury and Pioli began to overlook him, something which Conti reflected on to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Milan News.
“I got along very well with Pioli, though if I’m a bit torn in my judgment. When he arrived at Milan [in 2019], I always played, then I got hurt again, and from there, I disappeared for him. It was as if he didn’t see me. He never gave me an explanation.”
