Contract with youngster John Mellberg extended

19-year-old signs until 2029

FC Red Bull Salzburg has extended the contract of 19-year-old Swede John Mellberg in advance. The youngster has signed a new contract that runs until 30 June 2029.

The defender, who can play both in central defense and on the wing, joined us from his home country in the summer of 2023. Appearances with FC Liefering (25) and our UEFA Youth League team (seven) marked the beginning of his journey in Salzburg.

In August 2024, the Swedish youth international made his debut for our Red Bulls in a 5-1 victory in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga against FC Blau-Weiß Linz. John Mellberg has made a total of eight appearances so far, including in the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
