Spanish FA upholds red card as young defender set to miss Espanyol clash
Controversy Deepens as Real Madrid Fail to Clear Huijsen Red Card
Real Madrid suffered setback after the Spanish FA’s disciplinary committee rejected their appeal to overturn Dean Huijsen’s red card from last weekend’s La liga clash against Real Sociedad. The young defender will serve 1 match suspension.
In the 32 minute Huijsen pulled back Mikel Oyarzabal by the shirt as the Sociedad striker raced toward goal. Referee Gil Manzano issued straight red card .. a decision that angered coach Xabi Alonso and frustrated the club’s board.
Real Madrid argued that Eder Militao was close enough to cover making yellow card more appropriate.
The club even compiled file of refereeing errors from earlier rounds of the league and submitted it to FIFA.
Despite the referees' committee stating on Tuesday that yellow "would have been the fairest call" the disciplinary body insisted the red card & suspension were correct.
The committee stressed that Real Madrid’s appeal lacked video evidence proving Huijsen didn't commit the foul.
It emphasized that referees retain "exclusive authority" to interpret such incidents under current regulations.
Huijsen's been banned for 1 game, the minimum penalty for direct dismissal.
According to AS, Madrid can still lodge further appeal but if it fails, the 19 year old will miss Saturday’s La liga encounter against Espanyol.
