Middlesbrough beat Queens Park Rangers 3-1 at the Riverside, making it four league wins in a row to stay second, while the visitors drop from seventh to ninth.

In the 30th minute, David Strelec ran through to finish from Hayden Hackney's pass to put Boro ahead. Morgan Whittaker doubled the lead (36.) after a swift release from goalkeeper Sol Brynn.

Callum Brittain drew a foul in the area (49.). Tommy Conway converted from the spot (50.) to give Boro clear daylight.

After the restart, the visitors tested Brynn. Richard Kone's header was saved (49.), then Amadou Mbengue forced another stop (60.).

Paul Smyth won a penalty (69.), and Nicolas Madsen converted low to the left (70.) to reduce the arrears.

Brynn preserved the advantage with sharp saves from Jimmy Dunne and Karamoko Dembele late on (84., 87.).
