FC Barcelona will have to cope with a significant absence ahead of their trip to the Wanda Metropolitano on Thursday night, where they face Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final. The Catalan club has confirmed that Marcus Rashford will miss the match after suffering a knock to his left knee during their last game against Mallorca.

In its statement, Barça clarified: "First-team player Marcus Rashford is experiencing discomfort in his left knee following a blow received during the match against Mallorca. He has been ruled out as a precaution for tomorrow's game against Atlético Madrid." A decision made out of caution, but one that comes at the worst possible moment in an already packed schedule.

This absence could hand a psychological edge to Atlético, whose coaching staff are reportedly confident they can topple the La Liga leaders, especially as other attacking regulars like Raphinha are also doubtful. Already a red-hot clash, now even more wide open.
