There are some differences between European football and South America football.

Europe may feature the highest level of play on the planet but the Old World is no match for South America when it comes to celebrations.

Oriente Petrolero star Maximiliano Freitas kicked off his Copa Libertadores campaign on Tuesday but putting his foot straight down on the pedal — literally.

The Uruguayan forward came on in the 79th minute with his team holding a slender 1-0 lead over Peruvian side Universitario in the first leg of the first-round meeting between the teams.

He promptly scored with his very first touch of the football and began to wheel off in celebration before noticing that there was an actual car just outside the pitch.

Freitas then did what any reasonable South American striker with a sense of humour would and ran towards the car, opened the door (why it was unlocked, we’ll never know) and jumped in.

And to think in Europe we have strikers who don’t bother celebrating at all when they score.
