Carlos Corberán highlighted Pepelu’s character before Valencia’s Copa del Rey tie at Burgos, at El Plantío. According to Superdeporte, he pointed to the midfielder’s response after recent adversity.
He praised Pepelu for taking responsibility from the spot against Elche at Mestalla after his error in Vigo. He said penalties are practised regularly, but training cannot replicate match conditions.
Corberán felt the decision to take a stoppage-time penalty at Mestalla, and the manner of the kick, made him proud. He called it an example of personality and courage.
In recent weeks, amid a downturn in performances and results, Pepelu has been one of Valencia’s most reliable players. He has offered balance and order in midfield and taken charge in key moments.
His impact has also been seen in decisive actions, from set pieces to late arrivals from midfield. That willingness to assume responsibility has strengthened his role in the dressing room and on the pitch.
