Looking above or below the current position in the table
Valencia CF must focus solely on tomorrow's game; it's very important. We're only focused on the game against Rayo. What happened last weekend is in the past now. We want to have a great game against very demanding opponents.
The team's competitive edge
Every game is different. It's not the same playing against one side as another. Sometimes you adapt better, your strategy works better, or you can extend what you do well for longer periods. There are aspects that aren't related to the game itself, but rather to mentality, and sometimes when you really want to play well and things aren't going your way, factors that negatively impact performance appear, such as frustration or discouragement. In football, as in life, you have to maintain your composure, your confidence in achieving good spells of play, and then football brings together tactical, mental, physical, and technical aspects. Managing all of that well is a challenge for every team.
Players available for Thursday
Lucas Beltrán remains sidelined, as he’s still unable to overcome his discomfort. Thierry Correia is back into the squad, having trained with the team in recent days, and he is available.
Sending out an ambitious message
For me, there's nothing more ambitious than letting the fans know that the team are going to push for all three points. Rayo Vallecano are the only Spanish team in a European final, and that's a testament to a job very well done by them. Tomorrow, we will give everything we have. We will face difficult moments, but we will try to stay strong and confident in order to turn things around, and we want to convey to the fans how much these three points mean to us. The team's commitment to making Mestalla get behind us will be absolute. We know how important this match is, and in this back-and-forth battle, we will have to stay strong against a very direct, fast-paced team. We will try to extend our best spells and be mentally strong for a very demanding game.
Competing until the end
In the standings there are many teams in the same situation; the competition is fierce. There's no clear points gap separating them; some are looking upwards, others down, but the future lies in tomorrow's match, and we have to start in the best possible way: Understanding the game, knowing whether to defend with a high or low block. Sometimes, based on results, we draw conclusions related to details and specific moments in the match. Managing all of this well brings you closer to a good result. There's nothing we want more than to give our fans a good result. When the fans see the team giving their all, it helps us a lot. The power of Mestalla has proven many times to be incredible. I'm convinced their support will be special. Mestalla knows that their support is crucial for the team. The fans want to see a team that gives their all, that fights, that plays well. It's going to be a very demanding game, and one we'll approach with a great sense of responsibility and a desire to give our best for our fans.
The formation
We always make decisions based on how we believe the team will perform best. Performances fluctuate, and sometimes we can't maintain a consistently high level of play, which is what we want as a team. We analyse what we believe is best. I have complete confidence that we can play well with any system. The team have potential and must manage games mentally, in terms of every moment, and demonstrate the desire to achieve the win.
The objective for the end of the season
Talking about unattainable goals isn't exactly an ambitious message. What's ambitious is saying we're going to fight for the three points. That's the challenge we have; we want to have a great game and get closer to 45 points. There's no point in talking about 46, 47, or 48 points, when you're only on 42. Tomorrow, three points are at stake. We know we have to put in a tremendous physical and emotional effort. We want to show these fans how important this game is to us, so we can receive from them what helps us compete and get results.
Having two left-backs like the ones we have is a privilege. Having a captain like Gayà and a young but experienced player like Jesús is very interesting. I think Valencia CF have a very solid foundation in that position, and that's very important for performance.
Regrets from the season
When you don't get the wins and points you want, you always want more. That ambition is what defines us in our profession. When we don't achieve everything we want, dissatisfaction is present and it's a motivation for the future.
Describing the season
We're in a season where the small margin of one or two points will take you one way or another. That speaks to the parity in LaLiga, where it's impossible to predict results; we're all very evenly matched, and that's why it's so important to manage every emotional and tactical detail. In games with such close competition, feeling that parity and making your fans feel it is very important. Managing frustration and resilience are vital in a season with so much equality.
I have stated an objective. We're going to do everything possible to finish tomorrow's game with 45 points. That may or may not happen. We'll end up with 42, 43, or 45. That's our ambition: to have the best match we can against opponents that will demand the absolute maximum from us. That's the reality. I understand the recurring question, but it has a recurring answer. Every match is crucial. We're going to give the utmost importance to every game. Tomorrow, we can't get more than 45 points. Tomorrow, our ambition is to show the fans how much they mean to us, to fight from the first minute to the last, and to manage every moment. We want them to see a competitive Valencia CF; there's nothing more ambitious for me than that.
The need to improve
Everyone at Valencia CF has a responsibility to give their best. I know my responsibility: when things don't go as planned and don't live up to the club's prestige, we have to work hard to silence the critics and deliver the best for the fans. This season isn't over; there are still nine points up for grabs. We're going to give the utmost importance to what's left, to every single match.
Carrying over good performances
When you achieve a good performance, it's very important to understand why, as this makes it easier to replicate that performance in the next match. We must demonstrate maximum commitment, maximum effort, and mental fortitude to overcome challenges in games, and this is fundamental to stringing together good performances.
Sadiq
No two footballers are the same, no two people in a dressing room are the same. We have to grow and bring out the best from each other, from every personality. We all need to correct what we need to do better. And we all learn from what works. Sadiq is an exceptional guy; his sense of humour is part of his personality. I neither want to change him, nor can I do that. He's here at the club because of his good performance. When there is absolute tranquility and a good atmosphere, balanced with the highest standards, that's positive for the group.
His time in Greece
I've always learned from every coaching experience. Each stage in my career is very important for my personal and professional growth. My time in Greece was short, but intense. We managed to qualify for Europe. We only played two matches in the group stage. It's important to learn both when the team win and when they don’t.
