We're trying to improve our dynamics, our play, our overall feeling, and our results. The mission is to find a path that makes us competitive and maintain it as consistently as possible.
Form away from home
I don't think there's any aspect to it that has anything to do with complacency. It shows how difficult it is to play away from home; it's a statistic that's been the case for many years and many seasons. We want to compete just as well away from home as we do at Mestalla, and that's our objective. That's our mentality; the desire is to go to Vallecas on Monday and get a win that starts to change this dynamic. That's the squad's objective, while we are also aware of the difficulty.
Hugo Duro becoming a starter
For us, Hugo is a very important player for the team. We have different types of strikers; sometimes Hugo starts, sometimes Lucas, sometimes Danjuma. We have different options. To be competitive, we need to have great players starting the match and also on the bench. I can confirm that we're going to play the next match with the best possible mindset. We're eager to continue the way we've found to compete. We're facing very competitive opponents.
What his role will be in the new sporting structure
The club have already announced the new organisational structure. I personally believe strongly in the scouting department; clubs need to be well-organised. My role at Valencia CF won't change; it will be the same as when I started at this club. Communication between a scouting department and a club needs to be constant, but my role is to get the most out of the squad.
The Valencia CF vs. Sevilla FC match being played on the same day as the marathon
There's a clash of two major sporting events in the city. What I find regrettable is that the essence of football, which is the fans, isn't given more attention. There are over 40,000 fans traveling to Mestalla, and traffic won't be normal because the city will be closed due to the other event. Empathising with the fans can only improve football. It's a shame when that doesn't happen.
The absence of Valencia CF fans in Vallecas and the smaller pitch
It's a shame not to have our fans with us on Monday; it's very frustrating. Having them with us is crucial, and it's a pity that not every detail that affects the fans has been taken care of, because they are the essence of this sport. Monday's game isn't only affected by the smaller pitch, but also by the profile of Rayo's players, who possess great physical and technical ability, and by their playing style under Inigo Pérez. It's a very clear, identifiable style that makes excellent use of pressure, which reduces space and time on a smaller pitch. It's going to be an uncomfortable game; you won't have time to make decisions when you're on the ball, and you have to make choices quickly. We're going in with that mentality; we need to have answers before the match even starts.
Luis Rioja's contract renewal
Rioja's performances couldn't be better. He's a crucial player, both in terms of his play and his mentality. In my opinion, he deserved this renewal because his level of dedication and commitment is enormous. Before I arrived at the club, he was playing as a full-back, but he can also play as a left or right winger. I've never seen a problem or heard an objection from him to doing whatever you ask of him to help the team. He has a tremendous willingness and a great capacity for adaptation. That speaks volumes about his commitment. The club's decision was the right one, because if someone has that kind of commitment, there was no need to wait.
Stepping up the performance
We're constantly stepping up. We don't want to be limited by whether we're playing away from home or at Mestalla. Our mentality shouldn't change. We go out onto the pitch to be at our best, because when we are, we demonstrate that we are a competitive team.
Preparation for the game
The demands of the match are not incompatible with the team's ability to compete. This game is affected by Rayo's aggressive style, with players pressing closely and not allowing you to make decisions. In attack, they use the flanks a lot; set pieces will be a factor, and dealing with them well will be very important. That's what we've prepared for, and we hope to have a good match.
Ramazani's condition
He trained sporadically during the first part of the week, then was partially reintroduced. We'll see how he responds to training today and tomorrow to assess whether he'll be included in the squad.
Who he will talk to in the new structure
My communication with Ron has been on a daily basis since he arrived at the club. It's constant, as always. In that sense, I don't perceive any changes. When they're in place, there will also be daily communication. There's no change in terms of the way in which I coach.
