Corinthians’ 1-1 draw with Independiente Santa Fe in the Libertadores ended amid a post-match flare-up at El Campín in Bogotá, with players from both sides converging at the goal the Brazilians defended in the second half.
Paramount+ reports that Hugo Souza’s celebration at full time, facing the home end behind the goal, was said to have sparked the incident. Santa Fe forward Nahuel Bustos confronted the goalkeeper, prompting players to rush towards that area.
As tempers rose, Hugo Souza backed away and was escorted by Corinthians staff, including head coach Fernando Diniz. With some Santa Fe players, including midfielder Obrian, attempting to close in, Corinthians shielded their keeper, who ran towards the tunnel amid objects thrown from the stands.
Once the teams were separated, Corinthians tried to cross the pitch to acknowledge their supporters in the north stand, only for match security to form a cordon to keep them back.
Despite that initial resistance, the squad celebrated with the travelling fans. After Rodallega opened the scoring, Gustavo Henrique struck in stoppage time to level and leave Corinthians well placed for the last 16.
Top of Group E with 10 points after four rounds, Corinthians now switch focus to the Brasileiro. They host São Paulo at Neo Química Arena on Sunday at 18:30 in the 14th round.
