Corinthians academy gem nets first goal for Braga in Portugal

On the afternoon of last Wednesday (29), Braga from Portugal hosted Santa Clara at home for the quarterfinals of the Portuguese League Cup and won by a score of 5-0. One of the goals in the match was scored by midfielder Gabriel Moscardo, one of Corinthians’ main revelations in recent years.

The goal, scored at 43 minutes of the second half, was the midfielder’s first for the Portuguese team. Gabriel Moscardo started the match on the bench and came on at halftime. According to Sofascore, a sports statistics app, the midfielder had a solid performance: 23 out of 27 accurate passes (85%), 10 out of 11 accurate passes in the opponent’s half (91%), 13 out of 16 accurate passes in the defensive sector (81%), and 1 out of 1 accurate long pass (100%).

In addition, the midfielder registered 35 actions with the ball, suffered two fouls, made two tackles, two clearances, two ball recoveries, and won four out of six ground duels. His Sofascore rating was 8.0. It’s worth noting that Moscardo belongs to PSG, France, and is on loan to Braga for one season. In the 2024/2025 season, he had been loaned to Stade Reims, also in France, where he played ten matches and scored one goal.

Gabriel Moscardo has already played seven matches for Braga in the 2025/2026 season. Considered one of Corinthians’ greatest revelations in recent years, the youngster debuted for the club in June 2023, catching the attention of coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo in a match against Liverpool of Uruguay at Neo Química Arena, valid for the sixth round of the Libertadores group stage that year.

On that day, the midfielder came on in the final stretch of the match and delivered a standout performance. At the end of 2023, he was sold to PSG, France, for 20 million euros (about R$107 million at the time), plus 2 million (approximately R$10.7 million) in performance bonuses. During this period, however, he suffered a detected foot injury and spent six months on loan at Corinthians from the French club to treat the injury.

In total, wearing the Corinthians shirt, he played 27 matches – 22 as a starter – (10 wins, 11 draws, and six losses, with just over 50% success rate). In addition, he scored one goal (a 4-2 away win against Vasco at São Januário, in the final stretch of the 2023 Brasileirão) and provided one assist.

Considering Corinthians’ U-17 and U-20 teams, he scored 13 goals in 61 games, with 45 wins, seven draws, and nine losses. In 2021, he was U-17 state champion in a final against Palmeiras at Allianz Parque.
