Corinthians academy goalkeeper makes senior debut, manager shares thoughts

Corinthians concluded their participation in the Brazilian Championship this Sunday afternoon (7), drawing with Juventude at the Neo Química Arena, with a score of 1 x 1. The Corinthians goal was scored by midfielder José Martínez in the first half. With this result, the Alvinegro finished the tournament in 13th place with 47 points (12 wins, 11 draws, and 15 losses – 42 goals scored and 47 conceded).

Despite the draw, this afternoon's match marked the debut of goalkeeper Kauê Camargo (21 years old) for the Corinthians main team, where he played for 90 minutes. According to Sofascore, a sports statistics app, he accumulated: three saves (one inside the area), cleared one ball, and completed 30/31 accurate passes.

Additionally, he completed six out of 17 long passes. In the first half, he made a decisive intervention after a close-range free kick from the left side, which the young player deflected over the goal. Kauê was promoted to the professional squad after the 2025 Copinha runner-up finish – where he stood out, and he is currently competing for the position with Hugo Souza (starter), Felipe Longo, and Matheus Donelli. He is third in the hierarchy.

In a press conference after the match, coach Dorival Júnior was asked about the athlete's debut and praised the young player's performance in training: “Well, Kauê has been doing great in training. He's a kid with a lot of personality, he's been evolving, we wanted to see him play at some point, and we had this opportunity today due to his merits, he had a very good match, congratulations to him and may he continue this way,” he said.

In 2024, Kauê was supposed to be the starter in the Copinha, which ended with a Corinthians title, but he suffered a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and was out of action for almost a year, missing the most important youth tournament in the country. As a result, Felipe Longo took over the starting position for the Under-20 team.

After the Copinha, his contract was renewed with Corinthians until December 2029, with a national release clause of R$ 80 million and an international one of 500 million euros (over R$ 300 million). Born in the interior of São Paulo, Kauê joined the Alvinegro in 2019 to play for the Under-15 category. The following year, he was promoted to the Under-17.

In that category, he was instrumental in winning the Under-17 state title against Palmeiras at Allianz Parque, saving two penalties. In the first leg, the Alviverde had won 3 x 1 at Fazendinha; in the return leg, however, Corinthians triumphed 2 x 0. In 2022, he was promoted to the Under-20, where he stayed until the start of this season.
